Heart of Jesus Church
By the 19th century, the city had outgrown its parish church. The parish priest János Győri, who died in 1849, bequeathed a significant part of his property to the construction of a new church. By collecting donations, his successors increased this fund further. In 1889, three buildings formerly located on the site of the church were purchased, including the Golden Crown Inn. The constructions began in 1892 according to the plans of the Viennese architect, Ludwig Schöne. The 57-meter tower of the historicizing Neo-Gothic building is the tallest structure in the city. The colorful interior painting of the church is the masterpiece of Otto Kott, who is also from Vienna. The glass windows of the sanctuary depicted the heart of Jesus secret of faith and the saints of the Árpád dynasty.
