Jurisics Castle

Castle Jurisics is our largest historical memorial, where the late gothic and early renessiance castle corridor is one of the most beautiful of its kind within Hungary

The St. Martin’s Church

The medieval church was built in honor of St. Martin the Confessor. It was built by the villages: Kis- and Nagypöse in the 14th century.

Holy Cross Calvary Church and Station Row

The Calvary Church on the top of the Calvary Hill can be seen from almost all parts of Kőszeg offering a beautiful panoramic view of the city.

Heart of Jesus Church

The tallest building in the town is the hall church, built in 1892-1894 on the site of the former Korona café, with a three-aisled, truncated nave in neo-Gothic style.

St. Emery Church

The Church was built between 1615-1618 from the donations of the citizens to serve the local protestant community. It was given over to the catholics in 1673. From 1697 to 1894 until the consecration of the Heart of Jesus Church it functioned as a parish church.

St. James Church

The St. James Church is a three-nave church in the center of Kőszeg with the greatest history. Behind the Gothic interior design and the Baroque exterior there is a rich, sometimes turbulent history. The current Saint James Church was built on the turn of the 14th & 5th centuries.

Lutheran Church

One of the most beautiful Lutheran churches in the region, built in 1783 in classicizing late baroque style, is located in the courtyard of the building at 29 Gyöngyös Street.

St. Vid’s Chapel and its surroundings

The chapel can be found at the highest point of St. Vid Hill. It is not a coincidence that during the Roman Empire a watchtower stood on the foundations in front of the chapel. They protected the plumbing system from here that supplied the former Savaria, today Szombathely.

Synagogue

The synagogue is now just a symbol, as there has been no community of faith in the city since 1951.

Calvinist Church

On September 26, 1993, on the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the congregation, the foundation stone of the new church was laid.

Jesus’ Heart Church

The neogothic historicizing Church with its 57 m tower is the highest building in town. Building works started in 1892 following the plans of Ludwig Schöne.

The Heroes’ Tower

The Heroes’ Tower was erected above the southern town-gate in 1932 in an eclectic style, for the 400th anniversary of the great Ottoman Siege.

St. James’ Church

The current Saint James Church was built on the turn of the 14th & 15th centuries. It carries both gothic and baroque charachteristics, and was built on the site of former cloister and church ruined at the end of the 13th century.

St. Emeric’s Church

The Church was built between 1615-1618 from the donations of the citizens to serve the Hungarian protestant community. It was given over to the catholics in 1673.

Town Well

The former town well stands on the Jurisics square. In 1766 ordered the Magistrat to renew the former chain-well.

Old Tower (Zwinger)

It is the earliest known tower of the town’s defence system. It has 9 walls, and was a real stronghold in the great Ottoman Siege. It is held to be built in the 13th century, together with the earliest pile-castle.

Lutheran Church

The evangelist church int he courtyard of Gyöngyös street No.26 was built in 1783 in late baroque style. It forms an organic unit with the surrounding evangelist buildings.

Reformist Church

On 26 September 1993 was the foundation stone of the church layed, ont he 60th anniversary of the founding of the community.

General House

Home of the Town Museum. It was the traditional Centre of the military leaders of the town until 1719.

Calvary Church

The Calvary Church has a breathtaking view from the inner city, especially from under the Heroes Tower. The Calvary Church was built between 1729-1734 on top of the Calvary Hill.

The Footing House – Historical Archive of Kőszeg

This is the only one double arcad building in Hungary. The back wall of this beautiful baroque building is the townwall itself. It was also the first ball-house in town.

Benedictine monastic quarters – Ferenc Faludi plaque

This house and the adjacent secondary school were the largest buildings in the inner town. It was built as a Jesuit monastery according to the Italian Pietro Orsolini’s plans.

Saint Anne Church

Medieval catholic church
