A walk along the Gyöngyös into the world of mills and old factories - Mobil guide walk
The Gyöngyös, which is pouring down from the Alps, fed the mills, manufactories and factories of Kőszeg for centuries. The walk along the brook leads from the train station to the border. (3 hours) Download the Kőszeg Walks app and come with us!
On the side of the alpine mountains, at the gate of the Pannonia plane, above the ancient castle of Bernstein originates the Gyöngyös. When the snow melts, it rages wildly, in the summer quietly, and is still the name of Kőszeg in German. Its name, Güns, is also the German name of our town! Its strength has guarded it for centuries and still feeds the town today. It entered the ramparts protecting the castle on today’s Gyöngyös Street, then it ran out of the city along today’s Liszt Ferenc and Sáncárok streets. For centuries, it operated 9 mills, later manufactories and factories, alongside providing water for the beach and the rowing club. It still feeds the Boating Lake and the Abért Lakes today. On our walk, romantic beaches, industrial areas rich in sluices, and romantic parks alternate. Our final destination is the Kőszeg felt factory, famous in Central Europe - and from there, maybe the spring region of Gyöngyös…
