The route of giants educational trail to the Kalapos kő and Széleskő
The route of giants educational trail showing us the most significant rock formations and small caves of the mountain ridge between Széles-kő and Kalapos-kő.
In the mountains of Kőszeg we can find green slate only around Bozsok. The formation is due to the volcanic activites in the geological Middle ages. The subsequent metamorphosis transformed the rocks into green slates. The process is due to the orogeny of the Alps. In the marine environment there was sedimentation too. The surface formation of the green slate due to a calcic part of the sea sediment which weathered much easier, while the harder rocks („hats”) were more resistent against the weather. There are many local legends that is associated with this surroundings. One of the legends says that once upon a time there were giants here, and these rocks are the broken teeth of them. The route of giants educational trail is showing us the most significant rock formations and small caves of the mountain ridge between Széles-kő and Kalapos-kő. It begins from the Sibrik castle, Bozsok. The lengh is 7 km with ca. 250 level rising. Number of the stations: 6
